So Trump is out, Biden was elected but the GOP won the US House.

So what can White People do next considering some 6 out of 10 White folks gave Trump the Presidency?

Of course, as a white man, am I ready to wage war on White Supremacy along with other white people?

White Supremacy is about impact not simply intent. Never should the majority of the burden of oppression fall on the oppressed. White people should be responsible for the actions of white people.

History may repeat itself at the expense of people at the margins. A vote for change should not cause a catastrophe. We should not cast out people because of they are different or have a different life view.

White people should not just “have conversations on race” but actively pursue the end of white privilege. Too often oppressed people are asked to be patient while white folks are “on their journey.”

To be clear, white supremacy harms us all and strips humanity from it’s and its beneficiaries. It shows up in the implicit bias of officers, teachers, storekeepers, and more. It is evident in health care in poor areas, and the educational gap in our nation. It shows up in hate when children are too young to feel it. It is around w.hen we are old enough to know better.

So what is the plan?

Observe

As a white person are you ok when your boss promotes a white man rather than a more qualified black woman to make your boss “more comfortable?” You don’t do this out of malice, but you must learn to see it for what it is.

Why not spend a day counting micro aggressions to know what it is and what it can mean.
Unpack your white privilege backpack and read what it means to wake up white.

Be an Accomplice not just an Ally

Many of our allies expose revolutionary democratic rhetoric on social media all day this does not create a safe place for marginalized people.

If your the actions you are talking does not feel uncomfortable, chances are you are not doing enough. For example, if you say that undocumented children’s lives matter when they need protecting.

Become a source, with no strings attached.

Donations are important but don’t tell people how the front line people against racism should do their work. Don’t come with a separate agenda  but cheer their progress.

In Summary

Come up with a plan that includes staring down hatred and vowing never to become desensitized.

In real life and on social media challenge, say you’re white LGBTQ friends more, regardless of who they voted for. Take a look at folks like you making decisions about where to start doing white folks work.

Nothing in freedom work is comfortable. It needs a daily struggle of difficult choices and exhausting actions. For the sake of our values share your plan and get to work.
