By Adan Burnett & Bruce Menapace, Awards Committee Co-Chairs
FOUNDERS AWARD - Joe Tyler and Andy Pollard of MACT Baltimore. Simply stated, if it weren't for the effort of these two partners their chapter would not be active today. They have served as chapter officers and over the years they have hosted countless events in their home.
PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - Paul Hawkins.
Paul has dedicated himself to NABWMT for over a decade in several different positions. He has served on the NABWT Board as Recording Secretary, has facilitated and led the NA's Multiracial Multicultural Institute, which is now the Bush Mallon Institute for Social Justice and managed our national office in Pittsburgh.
SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - Jennifer Lanier.
She has been described by the former president of Bennett College, Dr. Johnetta Cole, as a sister who "ever so skillfully and creatively uses the medium of theater to expose how painful and ultimately destructive racism, sexism and heterosexism are to individuals, communities, our nation and the world."
NEWSLETTER EDITOR AWARD - Roy Whittoff, MACT-Atlanta.
Roy has been the editor for his chapter's newsletter for over ten years and during that time; he has never missed an issue. He consistently has produced a publication that is timely, informative, and very visually appealing. No matter the tardiness of the newsletter submissions.
CHAPTER ACTION AWARD - PACT Cleveland.
This chapter hosted last year's profitable convention while at the same time offering a convention program full of fun as well as educational workshops. This chapter has set the standard for chapters everywhere by hosting the most workshops from the Bush-Mallon Institute for Social Justice.
FOUNDERS AWARD - Jerry Brown of BWMT Atlanta.
Jerry helped steer his chapter through some difficult times last year. He has helped his chapter increase its membership over 40%, has represented the chapter in outreach to the greater LGBT community, and has pushed for greater participation with NABWMT.
NEWSLETTER EDITOR AWARD -
Arthur Martin-Chester, MACT Philadelphia.
Arthur has edited his chapter's monthly newsletter for over 10 years, never missing an issue. He recently published Senator Obama's text on racism, while welcoming opposing views. He has published over 120 monthly issues and he has put together special abridged issues for distribution at Gay Pride.

CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION FOR
OUTGOING CO-CHAIRS - Tony Bridges & Nat Martin.
Nat and Tony were thanked for all of their efforts over the past four years, in particular, a financial framework of record keeping and endowments that will well serve NABWMT in the future.
CHAPTER ACTION AWARD - BWMT Atlanta.
In the past two years, this chapter has hosted the NABWMT board twice, making generous financial contributions each time. In 2007 it contributed $1,000 to the John Lewis Scholarship Fund, providing financial help to college students who "commit to securing civil liberties, to protecting human rights, and to preserving the dignity of mankind through non-violent means." The chapter donated hundreds of dollars worth of toys to children with AIDS.
CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION FOR
OUTGOING BOARD MEMBERS - Gavin Morrow-Hall & Bill Steiner.
CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION AS A MAJOR DONOR -
Bill Bua.
Over the years Bill has been very generous to NABWMT. Indeed, this past year he was our leading donor.
PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - Mark P. Behar.
Mark played a key role in making the 2008 convention happen. He conducted most of the convention correspondence while functioning as Convention Co-Chair Norbert Young's right-hand-man.
PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - Tyrone Harvey.
Tyrone spent a whole year working diligently on the Bylaws Revision Committee when NABWMT switched to an Annual Membership Meeting format during national conventions. He has served on the NABWMT Long Range Planning Committee and even now is hard at work co-chairing next year's convention.
NATIONAL ACTION AWARD - Norbert Young and Al Santeler
These two men were tireless in their efforts and maintained a positive outlook while spearheading the 2008 convention almost singlehandedly, a daunting task without the availability of local grassroots support. Congratulations to Norbert Young and Al Santeler for a wonderful convention this year!
NATIONAL ACTION AWARD - Tim Wilson.
All one has to do is read this Tim’s biography over the past 25 years to see why he is the right person to receive the NABWMT National Action Award. He is an Outreach Coordinator for the Fred Martinez Project and the film Two Spirits, which is a film about a young Native American boy who expressed his sexuality as both male and female and then was subject to a hate crime. Tim's involvement in the Fred Martinez project has helped to bridge alliances between public education, grassroots organization non-profit organizations, policy makers, law enforcement, libraries and communities of faith to address the issue of sexuality and tolerance.
Tim has experience working as a facilitator, board member, administrator, and trainer for local regional, national, and international organizations. Some of these organizations include PFLAG, NABWMT, NGLTF Creating Change Conferences, ILGA World Conferences, the Mayor's Gay and Lesbian Advisory Committee of Denver, Community Shares of Colorado, and the Gay and Lesbian Police Advisory Task Force of Los Angeles.
