Douglas Nobel Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Adan Burnett and Bruce Menapace, Awards Committee
Douglas has been one of the longest serving members on the Board of Directors of NABWMT. For over 18 years, he served this organization, and has in numerous ways been one of the major forces behind the support and continuation of NABWMT over all these years. He has whole-heartily supported the Statement of Purpose through the good and the not-so-good times. He was always willing to meet any challenge and never backed down on supporting, advocating, and defending any matter that would move the organization forward. Doug was never timid or reluctant to express himself when he felt that the success of the organization was being threatened or challenged. He provided legal advice and opinions on practically every proposal and initiative that was presented to the organization. But he was not just an advisor, he was a dedicated worker.
He has done exemplary work and made outstanding contributions to
the structure and composition of the organizations bylaws and standing rules. He has been the primary force and contributor to the organization's awards and recognition process. And most outstandingly, for the past 10 years, he has devoted hundreds of hours to identifying, documenting, recording, and archiving NABWMT's history. He has spear-headed the History/Legacy Project conducting oral interviews and supplementing NABWMT's Archives on file with the GLBT Historical Society of Northern California. He has recorded well over a hundred individuals of this organization who have made a difference over the past 28 years. And because of this dedicated individual, today NABWMT can boast of a fine collection of archival materials. And he did all of this on his time and at his expense. In addition he was the primary force behind the planning and preliminary research that went into a fantastic history/legacy presentation at the 25th Anniversary Convention in Pittsburgh.
