The NABWMT Officers
Dave Siereveld, Co-Chair,
Dave has been a member of BWMT Atlanta since the mid 1980's, twice serving as co-chair and currently the recording secretary. He was elected to the NABWMT Board of Directors in 2007 and has spent the past year familiarizing himself with the procedures and workings of our national organization.
Originally from Kentucky, Dave has called Atlanta home for over thirty years. He holds a B.A. in English and Masters and Educational Specialist degrees in Middle Childhood Education. He retired after thirty years as a teacher in the public schools, but he still mentors new teachers and substitute teaches for Atlanta Public Schools.
Dave would like to explore ways that the NABWMT can expand its membership base. With that goal in mind, Dave is excited to be serving as co-chair of the organization with Norbert Young. Besides expanding the membership, Dave hopes to reconnect with the local chapters, seeking their input and energy to realize our statement of purpose.
Norbert E. Young, Co-Chair
Norbert served as Co-Chair in the MACT Chicago Chapter. He served as convention co-chair for the BWMT Midland Regional Convention in Chicago, and the 28th NABWMT Annual Convention in St. Louis.
His vision for the NA is to build a vibrant, nationally renown, and well respected organization among its membership and the general community. He looks forward to working with his fellow board members and the leadership from local chapters in helping to “bring back” the National Association.
Norbert graduated from Columbus College of Art and Design in 1986, after studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. He founded his interior design company in 1989, and relocated to Chicago and San Francisco during the 1990s. He created a prize-winning showcase home in Chicago that benefited the Chicago Symphony, and a prize-winning showcase home that benefited the Oak Park Infant Welfare Society. In the early 2000's he created a real estate company that provides rental housing to low income families.
John R. Williams, Treasurer
John received his economics degree from Cornell and his master of public administration from USC in '95.
He has been a member since '87, a co-chair of the LA chapter in the early 90's. He was the first co-speaker of the house of delegates in 90's.
John has been a board member since 2004, and presently serves on the financial planning committee. He allows that NABWMT has played a major role in his life and his development as a person. He made a job related move from LA to Boston in April of this past year.
Ollie Lee Taylor, Recording Secretary
Ollie was born in Alabama. He graduated from Centre College In Danville, KY with majors in Environmental Science and Government, and a Masters from Florida State University.
He joined NABWMT and attended the Atlanta Convention in 1984. With one exception he has attended every convention since. He was elected to the board in 1985 and has served there or as secretary ever since. He organized the 2002 Miami Convention.
Ollie was the recipient of a lifetime achievement award in 1999.
Mario Allen, Corresponding Secretary
I was born in London, United Kingdom and moved to the United States when I was 2 years old. I attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in biology. I currently have plans to pursue my Master's degree in biological studies in the near future. In terms of a career I would like to start with either pharmaceutical research or bioengineering. I enjoy spending time with my partner Brian and our dog Angie. I am currently running for secretary of my local chapter P.A.C.T. - Cleveland, and looking forward to the success and growth of the NA and chapter.
Mark Behar
Mark joined BWMT Milwaukee in the mid-1980s, a few year's prior to Milwaukee's hosting the National Convention, where he served on the Convention Planning Committee. He also assisted with planning and programming at several Midland Regional Conventions in Milwaukee and Chicago. He was elected to the National Board in 2008.
He is a family practice physician assistant, and volunteers at the nation's oldest, all volunteer gay STD facilities, the Brady East STD (BESTD) Clinic.
He has bachelor's degrees from the University of Wisconsin and George Washington University, and a master's degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center - Omaha.
Adan Burnett
Adan has been a member of BWMT-Milwaukee for seven years, serving five years on the steering committee. He also serves on the community center board of trustees, Men's Voices of Milwaukee, and serves as a mentor with the Gay Youth of Milwaukee. Currently, he works with Aurora Health care in the fields of orthopedic and neurological. disabilities.
His interests, other than with the LGBT community, are Mitzi, the wonder dog (a miniature schnauzer), music, and gardening.
On the NABWMT Board, he serves on the membership and election committees. His hope is to help increase the number of chapters and national members.
Scott Duty
Although originally born in Jacksonville, FL, I have lived most of my life in the great state of Maryland.
I joined the BWMT Baltimore Chapter in July 2002. The next year I was selected as the White Co-Chair and have been in the position almost ever since.
In my professional life, I work for a luxury hotel company in a Senior Management capacity.
I previously served on the Board of Directors from 2005 - 2007. I look forward to returning to the Board and supporting our new Co-Chairs as they continue to transform this organization to survive and thrive for another 25 years.
Ralph Ewers
Ralph is a geologist and semi-retired University professor. He is a native of Cincinnati and attended the University of Cincinnati for his BS and MS. His Ph.D. is from McMaster University in Canada.
He is presently Co-Chair of the MACT Kentucky Chapter. He is serving his second term on the board and chairs the NABWMT press release and position paper committee. He wants to see the NA much more visible in the media and more active in pursuit of our statement of purpose. Ralph has filled in as editor of The Quartertly beginning with the winter issue of 2007.
Ralph enjoys kayaking, canoeing, hiking, classical music, and he abuses the piano and organ.
Darryl Fore
Darryl Fore is a resident of Cleveland, Ohio. He has served on the advisory board for the Ohio Department of Health HIV Division.
Theater, a large part of his young adult life, continues to motivate him to volunteer at the Cleveland Play House, Cleveland Public Theater, and The Cleveland International Film Festival. He was the film programmer for the Cleveland International Black Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in 2000-2001.
BWMT has been part of his life since 1985. He believes the organization with its rich history should be preserved. The healthy mix of social and educational endeavors attracted him to BWMT. Over the years, BWMT has served different purposes in his life. He believes now it is the time to be of service to NABWMT.
Darryl Gurley
A native of Huntsville, AL. Darryl's education includes a BA in Chemistry and economics from Johns Hopkins and a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Colorado.
Though retired from teaching at FL A&M due to Multiple Sclerosis, he helped found "It Takes A Village," an organization to assist disadvantaged students with academic achievement and "healing Touch", a ministry for AIDS/HIV outreach at his Baptist Church in Huntsville. As a Red Cross certified HIV trainer, and Darryl conducts HIV/AIDS training classes. He is also an Adjunct Professor of finance at Alabama A&M University.
Darryl served as treasurer during his first term on the NABWMT board, and is now serving his third term.
Lloyd Kelly
Lloyd is executive director of the Chicago-based, Let's Talk, Let's Test Foundation, an advocacy group created in 2002 to raise public awareness of the AIDS epidemic affecting America's Black community.
Born in Jefferson City, MO, he attended Columbia College and Chicago State University.
He was so impressed with the NA programs that he accepted an invitation to run for an open seat on the Board. One of his plans is to join with other Chicagoans to re-kindle the MACT Chapter there.
D.A. Leonard
D.A. joined BWMT-Milwaukee in 1983. He served the chapter as Steering Committee Member, Newsletter Editor, Treasurer, Co-Chair and NA Representative. He served as the NABWMT Treasurer from 2003-2005.
DA has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and a Masters in Business Administration from Marquette University.
DA believes that the NA Board must conduct its business with openness and transparency while carrying out it fiduciary responsibilities to the stakeholders of the organization, i.e., the chapters and direct members.
Bruce Menapace
As an NABWMT board member, Dr. Bruce Menapace co-chairs the NA's Financial Development Committee and the NA's Awards Committee.
From 2000-2002 he co-chaired BWMT-Cleveland and served as Coordinator for Educational Programming for People of All Colors Together - Cleveland from 2003-2007. Under his educational leadership the Cleveland chapter has received numerous awards for its antiracism work. Since 1991 he has presented and facilitated numerous workshops, caucuses and tours at NABWMT conventions. Bruce works as a psychologist at the Cleveland State University Counseling Center and in private practice.
Brian Powell
I am currently completing the second year of my two year term as a BWMT board member. Currently, I am a member of the membership committee and fundraising committee.
I have been a member of several different local chapters over the past number of years and happy to have spent time with so many wonderful people. Outside of BWMT and work, I spend my time with family, friends, and my partner Mario Allen and our dog Angie. I look forward to working with the new board to hopefully strengthen our organization to ensure its longevity.
