Board Confirms Cornelius Mabin, Jr. to Fill Empty Position

With the resignation of Adan Burnett and Scott Duty's move to Co-Chair, the NA Board is lacking two members. At its teleconference meeting in January, the Board confirmed Cornelius Mabin as a member.
Mr. Mabin, a native Arkansan attended Arkansas State University and Philander Smith College majoring in political Science. In 1983 Mr. Mabin served as the first African-American president of Arkansas' GLBT advocacy group, Arkansas Gay Rights. During his tenure he openly testified before the Arkansas state Legislature on issues concerning group diversity on state college campuses. Subsequently, AGR bestowed it's 1983 Outstanding Performance Award for on Mabin for his diligent pursuit of human rights for Arkansas' gay community.

At the 1985 Black and White Men Together national convention, held in Columbus Ohio, Mr. Mabin was recognized with a Personal Achievement Award citing his work and dedication in addressing homophobia, interracial unity and his participation in the Healing Racism Institute.

His human rights activism has also included engaging community outreach as a past Arkansas Gay Pride chairperson, lobbying Arkansas' 2004 Capital Hill Congressional delegation on state AIDS funding, numerous local TV and Radio appearances. Mr. Mabin is a former Arkansas AIDS Foundation board member, an ardent fundraiser for Arkansas Diamond State Rodeo Association, Toys for Kids and other local charity endeavors.

A prolific writer, essayist and commentator, Mr. Mabin has contributed numerous works to a host of statewide publications, and now serves as Executive Producer of CorneliusOnpoint, Arkansas' only daily updating online multi-platform website featuring items of interest to the MidSouth GLBTQ community and beyond.
