New Scholarship Program Unveiled for Members

New program seeks to support academic excellence. Deadline extended to June 10

A new scholarship program for members of the NA and local chapters is being unveiled this spring to help undergraduate and graduate students pursuing educations at accredited colleges or universities. The program this year will target applicants in good academic standing from any chapter in good standing, and especially those residing in Philadelphia, Washington, DC, New York, and Baltimore. Next year the program will be expanded.

The candidates will be asked to submit an application form along with a short essay that asks questions about their identity as an openly gay or lesbian person and issues associated with dealing with intolerance, discrimination, and a person's involvement with the NA or a local chapter.

"We hope that this scholarship program will demonstrate that the NA is committed to supporting academic excellence of today's youth who will become our leaders of tomorrow," said Co-Chair Norbert Young.

A committee of Board members and others will review the applicants and make their recommendations for the first monetary award to be granted during a public ceremony at this year's annual convention in Philadelphia. The winner-s will also be granted complementary registration for the Convention.

Tax Exempt donations earmarked for the Scholarship fund may be addressed to the NABWMT Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 90239, Atlanta, Georgia 30364.
